Tracy Widdess' brutal creations
Tracy Widdess’ masks are proper works of art. Currently living on Vancouver, she started knitting in 1999 and learnt alone. With a vivid imagination, she creates frightening wool monsters that are straight out of a science-fiction novel. She calls her work “brutal knitting”.
Combining the hand and the machine, the canadian artist performs technical prowess. Each of her pieces calls on average a month of work. She usually creates for orders. Bright colours, distortions; Widdess’ world et violently pop. We can’t help but notice the graphic quality of her masks. The patterns are elaborate and show great inventiveness. She was the subject of several exhibitions and a few of her pieces are sometimes available on Etsy: www.etsy.com/BrutalKnitting
