Alix Lukas and her refined science illustrations

Growing up heavily influenced by the lakes, forests and natural beauty of her native Midwest, Alix Lukas is a freelance illustrator based in Chicago.

Her work celebrates the beauty of unusual forms, exalting the intricacies of nature in detailed gouache and colored pencil renderings that make even the creepiest and crawliest of creatures accessible and engaging.

Since graduating with a BFA in Illustration in 2011, she has exhibited with the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and worked for Chicago institutions such as The Field Museum of Natural History and The Shedd Aquarium. Her work has also been utilized by The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation as part of a pollinator conservation project.

Alix Lukas’ work is published in the “portfolio” pages of Cercle Magazine #3: Insects.
